The park was a zoo for pretty much the whole of the first half of the 19th century
There was an event last year, organised by the Council, to celebrate the 175th anniversary of the zoo (which will hopefully be repeated again in the future). The TRA is also currently liaising with the Friends of Pasley Park, Southwark Council and the Cuming Museum to gain funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund to provide for permanent signage, within the park, to acknowledge this fact
If you've ever been in Lorrimore Gardens, you might have noticed the carved animal statues in the centre of the park - this, again, is in memory of the zoo that was once in the area
The whole area has a very rich history - let me know if you'd like more information
It is not being held in the Church. We are trying an online meeting for the first time.
How to join:
Send an email to: surreygardenstra@gmail.com
Give your name and postal address. Residents of Carter Street, Fleming Cottages, Forsyth Gardens, Greig Terrace, Lorrimore Road and Lorrimore Square, and the relevant council staff may attend. A link to the zoom meeting will be sent on Thursday afternoon to those who have signed up.
Welcome to the online home of Surrey Gardens Tenant's and Resident's Association!
The TRA exists as a voice for local residents and meets regularly to socialise and chat about local issues.
The TRA is open to anyone living in Lorrimore Square, Lorrimore Road, Carter Street, Forsyth Gardens, Fleming Cottages, Churchwarden House and Greig Terrace - SE17.
Everyone is welcome (children included)! Don't feel you have to have something to say in order to attend - it's a great way to meet your neighbours as much as anything else.
We hope to see you there - look out for our leaflets and posters, or sign up here to join the mailing list!
