TRA and St Paul's Church Christmas Fayre - SATURDAY 14 DECEMBER 2024 - 12-4pm St Paul's Church

Get in touch via email if you would like a stall at the fayre: surreygardenstra@gmail.com

2 x Cleaner Greener Safer (CGS) bids have been submitted October 2024

Every year we get a chance to apply for funding to improve our area by making it Cleaner Greener and Safer. This year we have submitted 2 bids.

1) To repair the Lorrimore Road Garden. This garden was planted in 2012 to put a stop to fly-tipping between Churchward House and 74 Lorrimore Road. This has been 100% successful as there is now no fly-tipping at all. The original wooden sleepers have become rotten so we have applied to have them repaired / replaced.

2) To install a railing / planters to prevent fly-tipping behind the block 37-45 Forsyth Gardens. This is an ongoing problem and we need the help of the council to put an end to it to make the area Cleaner Greener and Safer.

Updates on these bids will be available at meetings or via the minutes which are circulated by email via surreygardenstra@gmail.com

TRA Annual General Meeting - THURSDAY 28 NOVEMBER 2024 - 7-8.30pm St Paul's Church, Lorrimore Square

Our Annual General Meeting is a chance to vote in a new committee. If you are interested in getting involved in improving our local area then you may want to take on a committee role. If not you can help out by attending meetings or joining in with gardening. Even just by coming to our Summer Party and our Christmas Fayre you are helping to bring our community together. However you choose to join in, we look forward to seeing you!

Greig Terrace and Fleming Road Calming - Cleaner Greener Safer (CGS)

Through Cleaner Greener Safer from Southwark Council we asked for flower beds and drums in Greig Terrace to calm down traffic from e-scooters, e-bikes and mopeds. This traffic has increased a lot since the introduction of the Lower Traffic Neighbourhoods.

Almost as soon as the flower beds were installed (and before they were even planted!) the council decided to proceed with railings to make the area even safer. Fleming Road was raised by residents as another area of danger from e-bikes of all kinds. This continues to be a problem but has considerably improved since the installation of the railings and planters.

Unfortunately 2 of the purple drums were pushed over (they are very heavy - this was a deliberate act of vandalism). With the help of strong neighbours, the planters have been restored to their correct position and have been re-planted using TRA annual grant money. TRA money has also been used to put bark on the planters to keep them weed free.

If you are interested in helping with TRA gardening, do get in touch. We garden maybe every 2 or 3 months. It is very satisfying to make quick progress with a group of neighbours and we always have refreshments and a chance to socialise too.

Over a couple of bids we have been award money from Cleaner Greener Safer from Southwark Council to improve Forsyth Gardens. This involved a door-to-door consultation process, a survey carried out at our Christmas Fayre and discussion at meetings.
The result is:

- 2 full-size benches and 2 chairs that look across the gardens and towards Cooks Road.
- 3 pieces of play equipment to encourage play-on-the way as families walk from the Brandon Estate to Pasley Park
- 6 new fruit trees which will produce beautiful pink blossom every year
- 1 beautiful large new flower bed.

Do let us know if you have any other ideas to improve our area.

Through Cleaner Greener Safer funds from Southwark Council we have been able to resurface the play area in Lorrimore Square. We have also added two new pieces of play equipment. The basket swing has been particularly popular!
