Free Walworth Garden Farm Bee Keeping Courses

Details of day courses on bees and bee keeping at Walworth Garden Farm...

The role of bees in supporting wildlife and agricultural production and a taster of what it would be like to look after bees. Courses are held on most Sundays and some weekdays, from 10.30am until 4.30pm (with a break for lunch) and are open to anybody aged 19 years or over.

In one day we can only offer a range of topics for consideration, together with the chance to have a practical session working on the Garden’s hives with the Garden’s experienced beekeepers.

Some of the basic topics covered will include:

· the importance of beekeeping

· bees and honey-bees; the life cycle of queens, workers, drones, and their division of labour

· the life cycle of a hive: swarming and swarm control

· the products of the hive: honey, wax, propolis and royal jelly
